Physician Associates

Physician Associates (sometimes referred to as PAs) are part of our team here at the The Well Street Surgery. They are medically trained, generalist healthcare professionals who provide medical care. They work alongside and under the direct supervision of experienced GPs.

Physician Associates carry out many similar tasks to GPs, including examining patients, formulating diagnoses and suggesting management plans. They are also able to request and interpret diagnostic tests and make referrals. Physician Associates are currently unable to prescribe medication. They may, however, suggest a medication during an appointment, which will be reviewed by the supervising GP before a prescription is issued and sent to the pharmacy.

You may see a Physician Associate if a GP has deemed it appropriate. All appointments are supervised, meaning their cases will be discussed with a GP at the end of the morning or afternoon session.
