Meningitis outbreak in Kent
We are aware of the recent meningitis outbreak in Kent and are closely monitoring the situation in line with public health guidance.
Cases of Men B (meningococcal group B) have been identified. It is important to note that individuals born after 2015 may not have received the standard Men B vaccination schedule, which is typically given at 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age.
Please note that we do not offer the Men B vaccine to individuals over the age of 2 years. However, this vaccine may be available privately.
Previously, protection against meningococcal group C (Men C) was provided as a three-dose schedule. This has since been replaced by the MenACWY vaccine, which protects against four strains of meningococcal bacteria: A, C, W, and Y.
Young people who did not receive the MenACWY vaccine in school at age 13–14 are eligible for a catch-up vaccination. This can be arranged either through the school nursing team or via their GP up to the age of 25.
If you have any concerns or would like to check your vaccination status, please contact the practice.
