Physician Associates
Physician Associates (sometimes referred to as PAs) are part of our team here at the Well Street Surgery. They are medically trained, generalist healthcare professionals who provide medical care. They work alongside and under the direct supervision of experienced GPs.
Physician Associates carry out many similar tasks to GPs including examining patients, formulating diagnoses and suggesting management plans. They are also able to request and interpret diagnostic tests and make referrals. Physician Associates are currently unable to prescribe medication. They may however suggest a medication during a consultation which will be reviewed by the supervising GP before a prescription is issued and sent to the pharmacy.
A GP will review your online request and ask reception to book you in to see or speak with one of our Physician Associates if deemed appropriate.
All consultations with Physician Associates are supervised on a daily basis, meaning their cases will be discussed with a GP at the end of the morning or afternoon session.
